CELEBRATING BLACK AMERICANS

This month, we’re celebrating and shining a light on three Black Americans who have flown under the radar for far too long. We all know Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks, but there are so many more individuals to honor and celebrate for their contributions to the civil rights movement, art, politics, science, and more. It is important for us to reflect on our nation’s history and recognize the accomplishments of all Americans.

Ida B. Wells

Ida B. Wells was an African American journalist, abolitionist, and feminist who led an anti-lynching crusade in the United States in the 1890s. She owned The Memphis Free Speech and Headlight newspapers and was a vocal critic of segregated schools. Later, she became active in the anti-lynching campaign in 1892 after multiple friends were lynched and even visited the White House to advocate for reforms. Wells is also considered a founding member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Most recently, Wells was immortalized with a Barbie doll modeled after her.

TORTILLA CHALLENGE QUARTERFINALS

Match Two!

In the second match of the Tortilla Challenge quarterfinals, tensions ran high as Ashton Dickerson and Larry Schoenberger, both from Milford, squared off for another showdown between agent and supervisor. The match started with Ashton taking an early lead, delivering slap after slap after slap. Ashton dominated the first half of the match, and it seemed like he had the upper hand.

However, just when it seemed like all hope was lost for Larry, he mounted a mighty comeback in the second half of the match. With determination and grit, Larry managed to turn the tables, returning slaps (even if they didn’t always hit the mark). Despite the number of evenly matched slaps, Larry’s inability to hold back his laughter led to three spits, ultimately sealing Ashton’s victory.

With this thrilling win, Ashton Dickerson secured his spot in the semifinals, leaving just two more matches to determine the remaining contenders. Stay tuned to see who else will be moving on in the next round!
