DRUM ROLL, PLEASE 🥁 🥁 🥁
Introducing RDI's "The Floor" Comic Series!

Welcome to our inaugural comic strip series, RDI’s “The Floor!” We know your job as an agent is extremely important (and sometimes tricky to navigate), with customers, supervisors, and external forces all needing to be balanced. We applaud all the hard work you do every day!

Give us feedback below (in the comment box) on what other situations you’d love to see satirized in our comic strip, and if we move forward with it, we’ll be sure to credit you!

ICON: MICHELLE OBAMA
Advocate, Lawyer, and Creative Producer

This week we celebrate the one, the only Michelle Obama! When she served as First Lady, Obama’s main initiatives were Let’s Move!, Reach Higher, Let Girls Learn, and Joining Forces. Her focus on health, nutrition, gender equality, and educational equity continues to this day. It can be seen in her ongoing work, her continued dedication to “Partnership for a Healthier America” conferences, and her involvement with women’s and gender equality conferences!

Not only was Obama a then- and current influence on America’s political landscape; she also delved into the literary when she released her memoir, “Becoming,” in 2018! Since then, she has continued her dedication to children’s wellbeing as an executive producer and presenter on a children’s cooking show, “Waffles + Mochi,” and released her second book, “The Light We Carry,” late last year! Hats off to Michelle Obama; we can’t wait to see what she’ll create and inspire next!

GIVE BACK & GET BACK!

HISPANICS UNIDOS & BPN
Community Give-Back in January 2023

Hispanics Unidos and BPN debuted their first #GiveBack&GetBack event this January! Agents were invited to donate items for local unhoused populations; depending on the type of item they gifted, they would receive compensation with RDI Hearts! For 5 RDI Hearts they accrued, they could wipe out 1 attendance point…what a DEAL!

Thanks to your ingenuity and generosity, BPN & Hispanics Unidos raised close to $3,000 (👀) and could even collect and buy all necessary additional items to put together 100 bags for the unhoused! These care packages include an entire first aid kit, non-perishable snacks, reusable water bottles, gloves, socks, hats, blankets, and more. BPN & Hispanics Unidos, plus any additional volunteers, will hand these out next Tuesday, February 21st.

If you have the time and want to serve our community through volunteering, please get in touch with Tara Kearney via email. If you’re sad you missed this opportunity; we have great news! Hispanics Unidos & BPN plan on rolling out similar challenges each quarter of 2023!

HERO: FREDERICK DOUGLASS
Emancipation, Abolition, and Suffrage for All

As part of our unsung heroes of Black History Month series, this issue of The Winning Times features Frederick Douglass, a famous figure of American history who fought for the freedom of enslaved people and women’s rights throughout his life. He was born in February of 1817 or 1818 and was the first African American nominated for Vice President of the United States. He escaped enslavement in Maryland to become one of America’s most prominent abolitionists, an advisor to Lincoln, and a Republican statesman.

In 1848, Douglass was the only Black person to attend the Seneca Falls Convention, the first women’s rights convention. Douglass stood and spoke eloquently in favor of women’s suffrage; he said that he could not accept the right to vote as a black man if women could also not claim that right.

By his death in 1895, Douglass had also been named United States Marshal for the District of Columbia, the first person of color in the position, had started his own newspaper, reached acclaim for his sermons and preachings, and published the final edition of his autobiography.

CHAMPION FOR MULTIPLE CAUSES

WOMAN NATION PRESENTS

SELF-CARE AND SELF-LOVE CHALLENGE
February 2023

You might have heard the terms “self-love” and “self-care” already, but what do they actually mean? These concepts go beyond “just” loving yourself—they encompass all the ways you treat yourself, think about yourself, and take care of yourself BEYOND a nice bath bomb.

As much as you may care for friends, family, and significant others, you are your number one 🥇You can’t pour from an empty cup, and this month, Woman Nation challenges us to focus on filling up our cups first so that we can show up as our whole selves in our personal and professional lives!

If you’d like to join the Woman Nation challenge, hop on over to the Woman Nation Facebook Page and join! The rules and stipulations (did we mention that you can win a prize for participating??) are listed once you are approved for the group!

RDI LEADERSHIP MVP AWARD
The winner is...James Walsh!

Folks, gather ’round, for it is time to announce the winner of this year’s Leadership MVP award. It was a tough competition, with numerous nominees who were all deserving in their own special ways, but after much deliberation and an intense game of rock-paper-scissors, we are proud to award the one, the only, JAMES WALSH!

Walsh always brings laughter (and sometimes tears) to our lives with humor and lighthearted teamwork. He has a unique talent for finding the fun in even the most mundane situations, and his ability to bring a smile to our faces is truly a gift.

So, let’s give it up for James Walsh, the king of comedy and the reigning champion of this year’s RDI Leadership MVP award. They say that laughter is the best medicine, and Walsh has been doling out the doses in spades. Congratulations!

OUR TIME WILL COME!

GAME OVER
Beloved Cincinnati Bengals Lose 1/29

That was a TOUGH one but our guys showed true GRIT in this past Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to swat the Chiefs into submission as they pulled out an impressive (but disappointing) field goal giving them the 3 point lead.

We’re super proud of our Bengals and can’t wait to see what happens next year! WHO DEY? DEY gave it all they had, THAT’S WHO DEY!

MONICA ROBERTS ENSURES
LGBTQIA+ Victims Weren't Forgotten

A Houston trans rights advocate, Monica Roberts worked with local law enforcement to make sure murders in the transgender community were investigated fairly and with journalists to ensure victims were correctly identified after their deaths and were reported with empathy and sensitivity. Her groundbreaking blog “TransGriot” celebrated Black trans women and men and gave a voice to those who did not have one.

At the time of her death in Oct. 2020, Mayor Sylvester Turner reflected on Roberts’ work and impact on Houston saying in part that she “walked every hall of government with professionalism, grace, and toughness to ensure transgender individuals and everyone in the LGBTQIA+ community would not be forgotten or overlooked.” She was also one of the original board members of the Mayor’s LGBTQ Advisory Board.

Submission credit goes out to Tara Kearney from Latonia!
